A star defensive tackle at Georgia Tech, Roman Reigns wrecked offensive guards for both the Minnesota Vikings and the Jacksonville Jaguars before becoming a WWE Superstar. The hulking powerhouse brought his smash-mouth gridiron style to WWE’s developmental system, NXT, where he left a long line of tough opponents in crumpled heaps. But it was at the 2012 Survivor Series that Reigns made his greatest impact. In the heat of a Triple Threat Match between WWE Champion CM Punk, John Cena and Ryback, Reigns hit the ring alongside fellow WWE NXT competitors Dean Ambrose and Seth ... Read More

‘The Highlight Reel’ descended into chaos

DES MOINES, Iowa — Happy Labor Day. Can we interest you in a complete dissolution of law and order? Chris Jericho’s planned interview with Randy Orton on “The Highlight Reel” quickly turned into a cluster of the highest caliber when the entire Authority emerged looking for trouble, only to get it when John Cena and Roman Reigns were provoked into joining the gathering moments later. Although the insults and threats flew left and right, Triple H did manage to maintain order — or at least delay the inevitable Pier-Six brawl — by orchestrating a Six-Man Tag Team main event of Cena, Jericho & Reigns vs. Orton, Seth Rollins & Kane later in the show. Not just because it’s best for business, but to determine whom truly deserves to be No. 1 contender for the WWE World Heavyweight Title.

John Cena, Chris Jericho & Roman Reigns def. Randy Orton, Seth Rollins & Kane

Perhaps this display was convincing enough. Since Triple H was seemingly on the fence about John Cena remaining No. 1 contender to Brock Lesnar, the COO orchestrated a Six-Man Tag between his Authority henchmen and three of WWE’s most stoic fan favorites to determine who, in fact, was The Beast’s best-for-business opponent.

Each man in the match acquitted himself well, particularly Randy Orton and Roman Reigns. Seth Rollins was no slouch either, working in tandem with Kane to keep Reigns at bay. Jericho nearly tapped Rollins out with the Walls of Jericho in the midst of the evening’s first six-way brawl (another would follow moments later). And Cena, of course, was the X-factor, tagging in late in the game and felling Kane with the Attitude Adjustment. The Cenation leader was so confident in his display he allowed Reigns to finish the job with a Spear, promising Triple H face-to-face moments later that he was ready for Brock at Night of Champions.

Roman Reigns def. Bray Wyatt by Disqualification

ONTARIO, Calif. — On an explosive Labor Day Weekend edition of SmackDown, Roman Reigns’ one-on-one matchup with Bray Wyatt escalated into Six-Man Tag Team warfare, AJ Lee delivered a sweet surprise to Divas Champion Paige, and Jack Swagger went head-to-head with Rusev in a submission battle!

Roman Reigns battled Bray Wyatt in a huge opening matchup that ended in a disqualification victory for the black-clad Superstar, after he was attacked at ringside by Wyatt’s fearsome followers. Fortunately for the powerhouse Superstar, Big Show & Mark Henry arrived to tip the scales in Reigns’ favor, sending Erick Rowan straight into an earth-shattering Superman Punch.

Soon after the chaotic opening scuffle, it was announced that Big Show, Mark Henry & Roman Reigns would clash with The Wyatt Family in a massive Six Man Tag Team Match for SmackDown’s main event!

Roman Reigns, Big Show & Mark Henry def. Bray Wyatt, Luke Harper & Erick Rowan

Roman Reigns, Big Show & Mark Henry began their match against The Wyatt Family in dramatic fashion, with all six behemoths staring each other down in the middle of the ring. This was just the calm before the storm, however, as these hulking Superstars proceeded to engage in an enormous main event clash that had WWE fans chanting, “This is awesome!”

The chaotic clash had no shortage of fast-paced action, highlighted by the 7-foot, 400-plus pound Big Show performing a sunset-flip! Amid the frenzied chaos and bodies scattered around the ring, Reigns launched himself off the ropes to deliver an emphatic match-ending Spear on Luke Harper.

Seth Rollins and Kane eulogized Dean Ambrose

It’s been a week since Dean Ambrose was Curb Stomped through a pile of cinderblocks and there’s still been no sign of the former U.S. Champion, so of course Seth Rollins and Kane took a moment on Raw to proclaim no less than Ambrose’s untimely demise at their hands. Proclaiming himself as the ultimate destroyer of The Shield proved a tad premature for Rollins, however, as Roman Reigns was quick to step up to the plate, attacking both his former “brother” and The Devil’s Favorite Director of Operations in an attempt to finish what Ambrose started. That Kane saved Rollins at the last second says a lot about how close Reigns came to doing so.

Roman Reigns def. Seth Rollins & Kane via Disqualification

Contrary to the song, authority doesn’t always win. But Authority certainly won on Raw when Seth Rollins & Kane teamed up to decimate Roman Reigns in a 2-on-1 Handicap Match for which The Big Dog found himself unexpectedly overmatched. Despite an early burst that sent Kane tumbling and Rollins all but begging for mercy, Reigns didn’t exactly take away The Authority’s two weapons. A double-team from Kane & Rollins (shades, ironically, of The Shield) put Reigns on the defensive. The former Tag Team Champion reclaimed enough momentum to drop Kane with a Spear, but Rollins’ subsequent attack with his Money in the Bank briefcase ended the match via disqualification.

The subsequent two-on-one beating softened Reigns up for a potential Curb Stomp through another pile of cinderblocks – yeesh – but Reigns fought back to escape, narrowly crushing Rollins’ head by throwing one of the cinder blocks straight at The Aerialist’s head. He missed. He might not next time.

Roman Reigns def. The Miz

Even with Randy Orton lurking at ringside and causing distractions from the get go, Roman Reigns managed to make quick work of The Miz with a thunderous Spear.

However, the real action began when Reigns and Orton engaged in a back-and-forth, post-match brawl both inside and outside the ring. While it looked as if Orton would end this free-for-all by nearly hitting Reigns with the RKO onto the steel chair – as he had done to RVD earlier in the night – Reigns turned the tables and unleased a chair/Superman Punch assault that sent The Viper back into his den … at least for the moment.

After seeing the history of Seth Rollins and Dean Ambrose’s careers, we get a look at Roman Reigns, who started out by playing football at college level for Georgia Tech. He went to Canada to play football, but made the decision to join WWE for the sake of his daughter, where he took to it like a duck to water. Roman said that his aim was to take advantage of every opportunity to scratch & claw to the top. Whilst Seth was gaining an attitude towards his role in NXT, which prompted Roman to take advantage. Triple H discusses the elements that made The Shield and how they had one shot to make a first impression.

The documentary recaps their time as a group, documenting their screen & in-ring debuts, their title victories and Roman’s Royal Rumble record. They also show the end of the Shield, and the build to Summerslam. First, they show Dean & Seth training for their matches, and then they show Roman training in the gym. We then see Seth arriving to Los Angeles on his own, followed by Roman & Dean together. Roman leaves his hotel with his fiancé, and discusses the importance of his match against Randy Orton. Cameras follow Roman as he makes his way to the crowd, and we get clips of his match and victory.

The documentary ends with Dean congratulating Roman, and a discussion of the former Shield’s future.
